Behold the Beautiful Body of Christ
Retreat for Artists
Presented by Arthouse2B
June 12-14th, 2026
(Registration has ended)
Humanity was created to live in union with God. Sin and disobedience had pushed us out of God’s presence into a state of isolation and exile from Him who is Life. God resolved to meet us in our exile and so lead us back into God’s presence. Under the baptismal waters, we are drawn out of Adam’s isolation and corruption and brought into the integrity and glory of the resurrected body of Christ.
The retreat will feature five talks throughout the weekend that will investigate the question: what will save me from my loneliness? Each talk will touch on aspects of the path of the human person from isolation into communion by their membership in his glorified body, the Church. We will explore Christ's role as head of the Church, how this rescue is executed for the baptized and the unbaptized, and how it plays out in our day-to-day lives.
This year our retreat speakers will include: Fr. Joseph Michael Fino, CFR, Sr. Eden Marie, S.V., Marina Fess, and Fr. Jonah Teller, O.P.
In addition to the series of talks, there will be time each day for reception of the sacraments, Eucharistic Adoration, and extended time for rest, personal prayer, creative work, time outdoors, and fellowship.
Join us June 12-14, 2026 at the Retreat Center at the Seminary of the Immaculate Conception in Huntington, NY for our annual retreat for artists. Ticket price includes the cost of lodging and meals throughout the weekend. Please stay tuned for further details from the retreat team regarding suggestions for transportation to the retreat center, including options for carpool and/or public transportation.

ghostcreator
A laboratory creation of Studio Child, Arthouse2B’s resident acting studio, “ghostcreator” is a paean to the Mystical in the theater, with echoes of Hamlet’s ghost. Directed by James T. Majewski and written by Karina Pooran Majewski, this poetical and physical exploration pushed the boundaries of form and invited contemplation.
The performance featured Lydia Brinkmann, Sharbel Habchy, Vincenzo Hinckley, James & Karina Majewski, and Peter Murphy. Lights by Lydia Brinkmann. The show was performed at Holy Family-St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Park Slope, Brooklyn on May 22-23, 2026.

On This, Your Baptism
On This, Your Baptism was an installation and performance by Cindy Hernandez Mathis. Staged within a parish basement at St. Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Church on the Lower East Side on May 9, 2026, the event investigated the popular material culture of baptismal party kitsch through a communal celebration of our personal feast day, the day of our Baptism.
Engaging with popular memory of visual tropes such as chiffon cakes, lace and party favors, the event staged a conflict between twee, sentimental aesthetics that both uplift and obscure the transfigural, sacramental reality of Baptism. The installation was accompanied by a performance in the spirit of relational aesthetics in which participants were invited to receive a slice of cake. The cake slice was an invitation towards celebration and quiet contemplation of one’s own baptismal identity.

On Tuesday, May 5th, we celebrated the release of Painting Prayer: Why Faith Needs Art - and Art Needs Faithwith a conversation with artist Alfonse Borysewicz and Arthouse2B cofounder and Executive Director Erin K. McAtee.
Alfonse Borysewicz is a Brooklyn-based painter. A Detroit native, he has a BA from Sacred Heart Seminary and an MA from St. John's Provincial Seminary. He attended the Studio School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, MA and is a recipient of two Pollock-Krasner Foundation fellowships (1987, 1992), a Guggenheim Fellowship (1995), and Templeton Religion Trust grant. His work has been featured in The New York Times and Art in America. This is his first book.
Alfonse’s work has been seen in a number of Arthouse2B gallery shows, including sub*stansia, In The Flesh, and De-compositions. His work was most recently seen in a group exhibition, FEAST, at St. Joe’s in Greenwich Village in April 2026.
FEAST Curator Conversation
FEAST was a gallery exhibition of visual and written art contemplating the elements of celebration: generosity, hospitality, joy, creativity, and freedom. No longer is feasting just “a good time,” but it becomes a fruitful and transcendent act that provokes our memory of our truest human nature-- to come to know the goodness and beauty of the divine.
On April 30th, curator Emilia Tanu Chornay gave a beautiful talk about the theme of the gallery and the selected artworks.

Arthouse2B Second Annual Benefit
Arthouse2B celebrated our Second Annual Benefit on the Feast of St. Cecilia, Saturday, November 22, 2025, at St. Joseph’s Church in Greenwich Village.
The evening was centered around the theme of Flourishing. After a beautiful Mass at St. Joseph's Church celebrated by pastor Fr. Boniface, O.P., we came together in McGuire Hall for a truly special celebration. Thanks to a delicious spread by Monte's Trattoria, a phenomenal keynote by our very own Sean McCullough, the presentation of our inagural St. Cecilia Award to Marylee MacDougall, and beautiful performances by Christa Dalmazio, Claire Kretzschmar, and Studio Child, it was really a night to remember.
We are so thankful to the volunteers who helped make the evening run so smoothly, to the artists who shared their testimony with those present, and to the friars at St. Joe's for their constant support in prayer.

Becoming Becoming at The Sheen Center
In August 2025, Arthouse2B presented an exhibition of works by Joséphine Dubern at The Sheen Center for Thought and Culture.
The exhibition, curated by Erin McAtee and Lucy Rahner, was an exploration of what it means to be an artist specifically in the context of motherhood: What does it mean to be an artist before versus after having a child? How does the process of creating a work as an artist relate to the process of creating a new life within oneself? What can an artist who is a mother specifically offer the Art World, an artistic landscape that has historically not been the most welcoming to such a state of life?
Becoming Becoming examined how mothers are ontologically gestational, creative in the very nature of their being.
Joséphine Dubern was born in 1995 in Aix-en-Provence, France. After studying communication sciences at the Université de Montreal, she graduated from Les Beaux-Arts de Marseille. She currently lives and works in Montreal, where she is also the mother of two children.
The exhibition was on view at the Dilenschneider Gallery at The Sheen Center (18 Bleecker Street) from August 6-28th, 2025. It was accompanied by a special immersive gallery performance by Karina Majewski on August 23rd & August 28th.

Behold the Beautiful One: The Heart of Beauty Artist Retreat
St. John Paul II once said that at the origin of all that exists, of all the created world, lies “not so much a great mind, as a great heart.” This Heart from which all of creation springs forth into being is the same source from which flows all that is Beautiful. This center of Beauty, this Heart of Beauty, is what anyone who has heard the summons to create, no matter what form that may take, has experienced — even if they couldn’t name it.
On May 9-11th, 2025 at the Loyola Jesuit Center in Morristown, NJ, we held our annual retreat for artists.
This year our speakers included: Fr. Malachy Napier, CFR, Fr. Isaac Spinharney, CFR, Sr. Tirzah Mariae, S.V., Br. Damiano Pio, CFR, Fr. Samuel Bellafiore, and Samantha D’Agostino.

De•compositions
De•compositions, a new group exhibition featuring drawings and works on paper, was view at St. Joseph’s Church in Greenwich Village from March 7 - April 9, 2025.
Co-curator Lucy Rahner considers the ashes on our heads at the start of Lent: “The Lenten season starts with an ashen sign of mortality on the forehead, like the smudge of charcoal an artist finds on his face after a long day in the studio. It seems no coincidence that graphite and charcoal—perhaps the most fundamental media of mark-making—are made of carbon, the very element to which our bodies return...”

“Playing Around” Gallery Exhibition
This exhibition, curated by Lucy Rahner, was presented in the Gabriel Gallery from August 3rd until September 6th. Featured artists: Adrienne Lee, Audrey Bennett, and Sasha Hallock.
From the curator:
“G.K. Chesterton noted that, ‘It might reasonably be maintained that the true object of all human life is play. Earth is a task garden; heaven is a playground.’ Yet, the experience of forgetting how to play as we become adults—losing that which gave color to childhood—seems depressingly ubiquitous. Play is indispensable, somehow existing for its own sake—for the love of the game—while filling life with vitality.”
